GRW Names New Vice Presidents

Greg Gabbard, Joe Pavoni, Jimmy Piper, Wayne Roberts, and Darren Wells have recently been named GRW Vice Presidents. This achievement is an acknowledgement of these five professionals' varied contributions to the firm.

Greg Gabbard, PE, LSIT, is an accomplished transportation engineer with more than 33 years of experience, including 23 with GRW. He’s a registered Professional Engineer in Kentucky, West Virginia, Georgia, Ohio, and Tennessee, as well as a Licensed Surveyor-in-Training in Kentucky. Greg earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering at the University of Kentucky. Greg regularly leads project teams for Kentucky Transportation Cabinet assignments in most districts, having completed more than two dozen projects. Examples include The Ohio River Bridges Project East End Kentucky Approach, and multiple Hurstbourne Parkway projects in Louisville, as well as Kentucky highways in Clay, Estill, Fayette, Garrard, Henry, Lee, Madison, Nelson, Owsley, Perry, Pulaski, Rowan, Taylor, and Whitley counties. Greg also completed a major racecourse entrance and access road project for one of GRW’s first clients, Keeneland.

Joe Pavoni, PE, LEED AP, Assoc. DBIA, has taken on numerous responsibilities as a water resources engineer during his 20 years of experience, including 16 with GRW. He’s a registered Professional Engineer in Kentucky and Indiana, as well as a LEED Accredited Professional and an Associate Design-Build Professional (Assoc. DBIA). Joe earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering at the University of Kentucky. Joe not only manages GRW's Louisville office, he is active as a member and/or chair of a variety of industry groups such as KSPE Louisville Chapter Partners Program Co-Chair and KY/TN Water Environment Association Kentucky President. Joe has excelled in the design of treatment plant including a major expansion of an extended aeration system along with new biological nutrient removal via the second ever vertical loop reactor ever designed and built in the state of Kentucky. A few key clients Joe works with regularly include Jeffersontown and Scottsville, KY; Louisville MSD; and Louisville Water.

Jimmy Piper, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, brings a variety of talents to his role as an architect with GRW including his 33 years of experience, 24 with GRW. He’s a Registered Architect in Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, and Virginia, as well as a LEED Accredited Professional with a BD+C (Building Design and Construction) specialization. He earned his bachelor's degree in architecture at the University of Kentucky. Jimmy's recent leadership roles within the industry have included being named to Kentucky's Housing, Buildings and Construction Advisory Committee (2016-2020). He also served on the AIA East Kentucky Chapter Board of Directors in 2017; he currently serves as chair of the Kentucky AIA Code Committee. Jimmy plays a key role in mentoring GRW architectural colleagues (he even coordinated GRW's 2017 Canstruction involvement). His strengths as an architect have been instrumental in projects he works on for GRW’s higher education clients such as Berea College and Georgetown College, several judicial center clients such as Robertson and Harlan County, as well as water resources clients such as Northern Kentucky Water District and Sanitation District No. 1.

Wayne Roberts, PE, is a highly skilled and respected electrical engineer with more than 20 years of experience, all with GRW. He’s a registered Professional Engineer in Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Florida, Arizona, and Washington. Wayne earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at the University of Kentucky. GRW project teams can count on him to provide leadership in the areas of electrical power distribution, SCADA, communication systems, control systems, lighting, lightning protection and code compliance, and other items. Wayne’s skill as an electrical engineer is regularly sought for GRW’s correctional industry clients, such as the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Commonwealth of Kentucky; water resources clients such as Indiana American Water, Kentucky American Water, Louisville MSD, and Sanitation District No. 1; as well as industrial clients such as LG&E and KU Services Company.

Darren Wells, PE, BCEE, has been demonstrating his strong capabilities as a water resources engineer for more than 23 years, including 21 with GRW. He’s a registered Professional Engineer in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois and Wisconsin, as well as a Board Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE) with specialty certification in water supply and wastewater. Darren earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Purdue University. His steady industry involvement has included Indiana Water Environment Association, ACEC-Indiana, and the American Water Works Association. Darren’s skills as a water resources engineer are regularly relied on to complete projects for Indiana clients such as Aqua Indiana; Citizens Energy Group; Columbus Utilities; Fall Creek Regional Waste District; Hoosier Hills Regional Water District; Indiana American Water; Indiana Public Works; TriCo Regional Sewer Utility, and Twin Lakes Regional Sewer District, to name a few. Darren is based in GRW's Indianapolis office.
