Louisville MSD's Clifton Heights Wet Weather Flow Storage and Pumping Facilities -- situated near Beargrass Creek -- are a key part of the utility company's program to control sewer overflows and improve water quality in Louisville and Jefferson County. GRW has provided design and construction phase services for the project which encompasses a 7.0 MG CSO storage basin and a 9.0 MGD pump station, as well as screening, automated slide gates, a force main and gravity sewers from three combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to the basin. The basin will be a buried, rectangular, cast-in-place concrete structure with a covered top due to the close proximity of homes and the desire to reduce visual and odor impacts. The basin will also be equipped with odor control equipment. The basin will operate on a gravity-in pump-out basis. During dry weather, the basin and pump station will be empty. Overflow weirs will be raised or added at 5 CSOs to reduce the number of overflow events. The project will also involve integration with Louisville MSD’s real-time control system.
