GRW led the design team, in conjunction with Caddell/Yates JV, for the design-build of a women's medium-security Federal Correctional Institution and minimum-security Federal Prison Camp located near Aliceville, Alabama. The Aliceville FBOP complex includes significant warehousing and manufacturing spaces as a part of the UNICOR industrial program warehouse building. The specific spaces include general storage, refrigerated storage, freezers, dry storage, secure storage, administrative space, inspection and security.
Design of the 49,800 SF FPI, UNICOR factory space at Aliceville includes the typical requirements for industrial spaces: durable slabs, high clearances, high bay lighting, a covered loading dock with six truck positions, compressed air distribution, and process electrical distribution. UNICOR is a self-supporting, government-owned corporation created by Congress to employ and train inmates. Federal Prison Industries’ schedule of products includes furniture manufacturing, electronics assembly, textiles, metal product production, computer recycling, heavy equipment re-manufacturing, graphics services, contract packaging, distribution, and call centers.
