As the lead engineering firm, GRW provided planning, design, bidding, construction administration and resident project representation services for the City of Frankfort's wet weather detention facilities.

Wet weather flow is diverted from the interceptor at the diversion structure and pumped into the 10 MG above-ground prestressed concrete detention basin. The discharge is controlled by a flow meter and modulating valve. The wet weather detention basin addresses wet weather flows in excess of the City's wastewater treatment plant's hydraulic capacity and minimizes sewer overflows in upstream areas of the City.

GRW also prepared the Preliminary Engineering Report for the project. As part of the initial study, GRW evaluated the storage requirements associated with peak wet weather flow, the feasible alternatives, and ultimate associated costs. One of the first tasks accomplished was to determine the peak wet weather wastewater flows, allowable peak WWTP capacity, and the resultant storage requirements. The selected design alternative will store wastewater flows greater than the hydraulic capacity of the plant.
